Three micro fictions to write while you wait
In weeks 2, 4, and 5 of What to Write This Week, we concentrated on flash fiction. Flash fiction (for our purposes 750 words or fewer) is a great way to flex the creative muscles when you only have an hour to write. This week, we’re going even shorter: micro fiction.
We all have waiting periods built into our day. We usually fill this time with scrolling through our phones. I wanted to offer you an exercise you can do while you’re waiting for your morning coffee, waiting in the school pick-up line, or waiting for your bagel to brown in the toaster. Wherever and whenever you wait, try writing a micro fiction, which can be as short as a few sentences.
