The Art of Plot Starts Tomorrow
Learn how to plot and structure your novel in this 8-week course
This is just a quick note to let you know that my eight-week course, THE ART OF PLOT: HOW TO PLOT AND STRUCTURE YOUR NOVEL, begins tomorrow, January 1st.
Recommended reading for this course is Patricia Highsmith’s classic novel The Talented Mr. Ripley, which provides an excellent blueprint for creating suspense in any genre.
Here are some of the things we will cover in THE ART OF PLOT:
How to shape scenes and chapters
How to balance plot and subplot
How to write a logical midpoint reversal that propels the novel forward
How to time your novel’s revelations
How to maintain momentum through the middle of the narrative
How to write a dramatic climax
How to create a story chart to guide you through the novel
How to use screenwriting principles to create a solid structure
How to craft great plot twists while maintaining narrative cohesion
Pacing in the novel: how, why, and when to compress and expand time
This course includes weekly video and written lessons and assignments, plus ongoing discussions and support from me, your instructor. It is not a workshop, and there are no live sessions. You will have access to the lessons for 18 months.
This course is suitable for writers who want to begin a novel or continue work on a novel-in-progress.
If you want to get your novel off to a great start in 2024, consider joining us for The Art of Plot. I’d love to see you there!
